Family Security and Safety Event
Lakewood Ranch, FL: A Family Safety Fair will be held on Sunday,
February 29th from 3:00pm to 5:00 pm at the Lakewood Ranch
Community Park on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Free and open to
the public, the purpose of the event is to provide safety information
and tools to families who want to help prevent another abduction
tragedy like recent kidnapping and murder of Carlie Brucia
in Sarasota.
Conceived by Dr. Jaih Jackson, Lakewood Ranch family dentist
and Doctors Health Journal, the monthly consumer medical newspaper,
Jackson and local dentists will make dental impressions of
children at no charge and give them to the family for identification
purposes. The Manatee County Sheriff’s department will
also be fingerprinting children and providing the fingerprints
to parents at no charge. Sheriff Charles Wells plans on attending
the event.
Jackson said, “We’re saddened because of Carlie’s
death and we are waking up to the fact that it takes a village
to keep our kids safe. If we can help another child, the tight-knit
community here at Lakewood Ranch is ready to step forward,
based on the people I have talked to. I am inviting the entire
medical community to assist and the response so far has been
overwhelming. Dr. Miguel Alvarez, a local pediatrician, has
answered the call and other dentists are going to help too.”
Local merchants and groups are also assisting with refreshments
and security products and information. Doctors Health Journal
will provide public relations resources and people to help
run the event. Local school organizations and the Lakewood
Ranch Mom’s club are involved in the planning and will
assist at the event.
